Planning a holiday to Walt Disney World from the UK is different to planning any other holiday. Different offers, different tickets, different booking time frames, and longer visits all change how you plan. This guide is designed to help you work through all the planning steps, from making the dream a reality, booking and planning your park days.

Where To Start Planning: First Decisions

The moment you decide to bring that dream of a Disney World holiday into a real plan, it's surprising how quickly you can bring it to life. But, if you're anything like me there'll be that moment where you don't know where to start.

The first three decisions you need to make are in the next three steps.

1: How Much Time To Spend In Disney World?

To fully explore the theme parks you'll want 6 days from the UK; 7 days if you want a Disney water park day, but a 10-14 day holiday is the sweet spot. Between the 9-hour flight and the 5-hour time difference, a shorter holiday can feel like hard-work. 14-days in Disney World allows for slower-paced park days plus you to get the most from the 14-Day UK Magic Ticket which offers the best value. It gives you the freedom to revisit favourite parks and take advantage of free water park and mini-golf access for a slower paced day.

If you're planning to visit other Orlando attractions set aside 6 days to get a true feel for the parks without rushing and getting FOMO later on. Our full guide weighs up the pros and cons of how many days works best:

2: When's The Best Time To Visit?

The best time will depend on the experience you are looking to have, when you can visit, and what your top priorities are. From prioritizing low prices, to visiting when the heat is more manageable, to finding the best UK school holiday to visit, the best varies from person to person. For a detailed look into the best times head to:

3: Where To Stay?

Choosing where to stay for your Walt Disney World holiday is one of the biggest planning questions for UK visitors. The first accommodation decision often involves weighing up the pros and cons of staying on-site or off-site. Don’t be put off by thinking Disney is an expensive option, as Disney on-site perks can save money on your holiday overall, especially if you are choosing between off-site rooms and a Disney Value room, so it’s always worth considering and pricing especially if you plan to spend most of your holiday in Disney World.

Staying on-site often involves difficult choices such as choosing between The Art of Animation and Pop Century or working out which All-Star Resort is right for your trip. Working out whether to spend more for a preferred room is also a query lots of UK visitors have. Choosing between standard or preferred rooms is essentially a walking tax payment.

Cost Of Disney World Holidays From The UK

The cost of heading to Disney World is a big factor when planning a holiday and is the next part of planning, once you know when you can go, how long for and where you want to stay. The cost of a trip to Disney varies depending on these decisions, available offers when you book, and how you choose to book your holiday together.

In 2026 / 2027 setting aside around £5,000 for a couple and around £9,000 for a family of four with two children under 10 is about right as a starting point for two-weeks in a Value Disney World hotel.

This price includes:

  • a Disney Value hotel stay
  • flights with baggage allowance for hand luggage and hold luggage
  • 14-Day UK Magic Tickets
  • cheapest option resort transfers in the UK and Florida
  • return seat selection costs on the flight so everyone sits together
  • ESTAs
  • travel insurance
  • car hire for 14-nights (mid-sized SUV or smaller)

This price can include the free dining plan offer depending when you book, but does not include food and spends budget otherwise. The cost of travelling during Christmas or Easter is higher to stay on-site, but this budget does include UK school summer holiday pricing.

Disney World Offers and Promotions

Offers can give UK travellers a way to save money on the total cost of a holiday, as well as saving on tickets and other travel essentials you buy before you fly. Helping to male budgets stretch further, waiting for an a specific offer before booking can be part of planning, but Disney never guarantee the return of any offers. The kids eat free 2026 offer and UK free drinks and dining early booker offer are both popular with UK holidaymakers booking 2026 and 2027 holidays because they add value and are stackable with other offers. Checking for offers before you book any part of a Disney World holiday is something I always do, and our offers pages is regularly updated to help save you time looking:

One Step Before Booking: ESTAs

You're now to the point where you're about to book, but the first step, before booking is to get your ESTA sorted. The USA Visa Waiver is mandatory for UK visitors to the USA. It’s a £30.00 ($40.00) cost per person irrespective of age, but best to do it first in case you incur any problems, as you can’t travel without it. Then you can get on with booking your Disney World holiday.

How To Book A Disney World Holiday From The UK?

There's three ways to book a Disney World holiday from the UK:

  1. A package holiday: offering a one and done solution with less planning effort required, payment options, and various extra protections.
  2. Booking everything separately: leaves the responsibility of connecting everything together with the person booking. It can add more planning stress, but can work out cheaper depending on the type of holiday you want.
  3. A hybrid approach: booking some items together as a package while booking other bits separately can be cheaper and easier to manage. This approach works well if you don't plan to just visit or stay at Disney World.

Disney Dining Plans: Who Can Book Them & When?

Only people who choose to stay at an on-site Disney World hotel can book a dining plan and it's an option to consider whether you book just a Disney hotel stay or package. You normally choose a dining plan at the time of booking, although it can be added on after. There are two Dining Plan options for 2026 bookings and from 2027 there are three Disney Dining Plan options:

  • Quick-Service Dining Plan
  • Table-Service Dining Plan
  • Deluxe Table Service Dining Plan

Whether a Disney dining plan worth it will depend on offers, the type of food you eat and how you choose to eat it, and how you work out value. If peace of mind that food is covered matters more than cost, a Dining Plan will offer value. Just remember that if you do want a sit down dining plan, you’ll need to consider tipping costs as this is not included with Dining Plan costs.

Travel Insurance: Why Book It Early?

Travel insurance is crucial for an Orlando holiday from the UK and taking out a policy as soon as you book your holiday gives you the best protection. Covering the cost of an expensive trip, that is often booked 12-18 months in advance is essential in case something goes wrong before the holiday starts. Buying travel insurance with comprehensive medical cover matters as there's no free health care for visiting UK travellers in the US.

Disney World Park Ticket Options

Disney World park tickets are a separate cost on top of your flights and hotel. There are three main different types of Disney World ticket options when buying Disney World tickets in the UK:

  • UK Magic Tickets for general daily admission just to Disney World parks
  • Combo tickets that give you daily admission to Disney World and other Orlando attractions
  • Special Event Disney Tickets for one specific seasonal evening Disney World event with limited capacity that may sell-out. This costs more on top of the cost of daily admission tickets.

A UK Magic Ticket is the best option for general admission, offering the best value in comparison to buying tickets on the gate in the US. UK holidaymakers can buy Disney Park tickets in the US, and if you are considering an annual pass for Disney World this is something that is best done in the US. The most widely available UK Annual Pass option is the Incredi-Pass, although if you have DVC you can get the Sorcerer Pass. The complete guide to buying a Disney World annual pass as a UK resident gives an insight into details, prices, and there is even a calculator to show you how many times you’d need to visit to break even.

Flights & Transfers

Flights to Disney World are part of the package or you book Florida flights separately, but aside from the cost of flying, including luggage allowances and seating costs, planning transfers both in the UK and Orlando are a part of booking a Disney World holiday.

Transfers To Disney World

The Orlando area or wider Florida airport you fly in and out of will impact available transfer options and how long it takes to get to where you're staying. Most people fly into MCO for a Disney World holiday and you'll find plenty of options to get to your hotel.

If you fly with TUI you will land in Melbourne International Airport, which is smaller and easy to navigate, Melbourne Orlando Airport to Disney: flight options, transfers, and car hire. There are other airports to fly into, including Tampa, where car hire or a rideshare like UBER can be used. Airports further afield have much longer transfer times, that can outweigh any savings on flight costs depending on your holiday plans.

UK Transfers

A small but significant UK planning job is working out how you are getting to and from the airport in the UK. Consider:

  • airport parking: how long the journey will take to the airport , costs, and how much more time to add on to get from the car to the airport building
  • drop-off fees: factor this in if you are planning to get dropped off; setting an alarm in your phone to pay is a good idea as many UK airports require fees to be pad within 24 hours by phone or you get a fine.
  • taxi / train: how long the journey will take and how you get into the Terminal you're flying from
  • overnight hotel stays

Hiring A Car in Florida

Hiring a car involves using Orlando toll roads and paying the associated fees, but this is a simple process especially if you choose to use Florida Toll Pass to skip paying the daily administration fees car hire companies charge. If you are considering if it is worth hiring a car and staying on-site the decision will be tipped by how many days you plan on leaving the Disney bubble.

If you choose to have a hire car during your trip you will need to pay for parking at Disney World, unless you are staying on-site when parking is free at both your hotel and the Disney theme parks. The Disney World car parking calculator is designed to help you work out exactly how much parking at Disney theme parks will cost you during your holiday. For a full look at what parking a hire car at Disney World involves, and tips to help you find your car every time head to the car parking guide: never forget where you park again.

Getting Around Disney World

There are many free transport options to help visitors get around Walt Disney World resort, from the Disney skyliner to the monorail system. It is not necessary to use paid transport to get around Disney if you choose to stay on-site or if you are staying off-site and you want to park hop.

Booking Reservations For Dining, Lightning Lanes & Extra Experiences

From character dining to Lightning Lanes, to building droids or transforming littles into Princes and Princesses at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, there are a lot of extra experiences that need to be booked in advance. Knowing what reservations you need to book and when to book them from the UK is a key part of planning for experiences.

Planning Park Days

Planning what you want to do during your trip can be as detailed as you choose, but there is no need to plan every moment of your trip. One part of planning park days that you do need to know is how you can get lower wait times by heading to the parks first thing:

Anyone with younger children can use Rider Switch to ride even when littles are not tall enough.

Lightning Lanes are Disney’s pay to skip the queue option. They can be booked from here in the UK without using a VPN. Our Lightning Lane Booking window Calculator works out the UK time you can book your Lightning Lane choices. For a detailed look at your Lightning Lane options head to our main guide:

Packing and Weather

Disney World weather changes throughout the year and this impacts what you need to pack as a UK visitor.

When wondering what clothes to take and wear, lots of people wonder whether adults can wear costumes to Disney World? Adults cannot wear a costume to Disney World unless they have paid to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Children aged 12 and under are the only people able to wear costumes in the parks, but this doesn’t stop adults enjoying Disney Bounding.

When it comes to packing for your trip, there are things you'll always forget. In Orlando you can get most things, so don't worry too much. But for a complete packing list head to my packing list which includes what I wish I had packed the first time I went to Disney World.

Packing a carry-on bag for a transatlantic flight from the UK needs to take into account weight restrictions, and legal requirements. For example, most UK airlines no longer allow the use of power banks on the flight, and you can only take a power bank that is less than 100w/h. opens in a new tab

Spending Money

When planning your Disney World budget, one of the biggest culture shocks for UK visitors is how spending money works in the US. Unlike in the UK where VAT is already included in the price you see on the shelf, US sales tax is added at the till. This means the price you pay is always higher than the sticker price, which can be confusing if you add up as you go round.

Because sales tax varies by state (and even by county: Disney World spans both Orange and Osceola counties), keeping track of the final costs can feel confusing. To help you budget accurately, our Orlando and Disney World US Sales Tax Calculator breaks down exactly what you'll pay versus what you see on the price tag and breaks down the key differences and similarities between Florida's Sales Tax and UK VAT.

Tipping is also part of the US culture, which is why we share a tipping guide for UK visitors and tip calculator to help you work out the tip amount.

Connection: Wi-Fi, Apps and Tech

You will spend a lot of time on your phone at Disney as everything is linked to the My Disney Experience App. Getting used to the App before you go is key to being able to use it easily while you’re on holiday,

There are also other considerations. From deciding whether to buy an eSIM or whether to solely use free Disney Wi-Fi, choosing how to stay connected is an important decision to make before leaving the UK to save on expensive roaming charges.

Buying a Magic Band isn’t possible in the UK; you have to wait until you get to Disney World. The value of the Magic Band depends on your opinion, but for some UK visitors this RFID bracelet adds a touch of magic and convenience to holidays.

Planning a Disney World holiday from the UK may have quite a few steps, and it can feel overwhelming at first, but it's definitely worth it.
