UK families with children between the ages of 5 to 18 find themselves tied to UK school holiday calendars when booking Disney World holidays. In order to avoid school fines, parents have a limited number of weeks to book holidays within. From weather to crowd levels, to events and seasonal decor, Disney World is different during each UK school holiday.

Best School Holiday Overall

Christmas is the best school holiday to visit, as well as one of the best times to visit no matter your age, however prices are higher and the parks can be packed. With great weather and the added extras going on around the parks, extra decorations, and a holiday spirit unlike anything in the UK a visit at Christmas adds magic to holidays with children of all age groups. The best school holiday overall for most families will be this time of year, but the second best is the spring-holiday if you’re looking to spend less.

What are crowd levels like during UK School Holidays

The key to avoiding long lines is to understand how both UK and US school calendars compare. Crowd levels are shaped far more by American school and university holidays like Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, than by UK school holidays. UK visitors can therefore still find a sweet spot of quieter times that still align with UK half term breaks to find those important lower wait times.

Here’s a general look at crowd patterns throughout the year in relation to school holidays:

Crowd Level

Months

Why Visit Now

🟢 Low

  • Mid-January: just before President’s Day Weekend

  • Between end of Presidents Day Weekend to week before Easter

  • Late August to mid-October

After US holidays, and before major events,

Fewer families as US kids in school

Shorter queues

🟡 Moderate

  • March to May: Spring break in the US and some UK Spring holidays coincide

Crowd levels are average

Festivals are on

🔴 High

  • Easter Weekend

  • Thanksgiving weekend

  • Christmas from mid December to second week of January

  • mid-June to mid-August (US summer break)

Lots going on in the parks

Long queue lines, may want to consider queue strategies both paid and free to manage wait times.

As UK half terms don’t always line-up with US breaks, there are a few windows where lower crowds can be found:

What Disney World is like during UK School Holidays

Each UK school holiday has different pros and cons.

February Half Term

The weather in February is cool, dry, and pleasant for UK visitors. As February half term is only one week long for most schools, and falls in the middle of the month, it can coincide with the US winter break. US school breaks coincide with President’s Day, the third Monday of February every year.

Run Disney weekends often occur around this time too, and will be the weekend of 20th to 24th February in 2026. Marathon weekends in the parks are busy and crowd level high. This means half term can be busy, but this is often a good time to visit if you have younger primary school aged children as the temperatures are more manageable for them.

Prices are often fairly average for a trip to Walt Disney World at this time of year. The pros and cons of a February half term trip to Disney World from the UK include:

Pros

Cons

Temperatures are good for long park days

School holiday is only a week long

Generally lower crowds than other half terms

Water Parks may not be open if temperatures are low

Run Disney Marathon can make last weekend busier than other times in February

Easter Holidays / UK Spring Holiday

Easter is a great time to visit Walt Disney World from the UK. The temperatures are usually warming up but comfortable, plus most UK schools have two weeks off so it’s perfect for a two week holiday. Easter gets busy but with Spring event like the International Flower and Garden Festival on at EPCOT, there are plenty of extra free things to experience that add even more magic to your trip.

Families with primary school aged children will benefit from the cooler temperatures, in comparison to Summer Holiday temperatures, as children and adults will cope with park days better.

Pros

Cons

Great temperatures

Park crowd levels high during Easter Weekend

Unique once in a year parade at Magic Kingdom

Queue times high during Easter week

Explore Easter eggs in hotels for free

May Half Term

May half term is a lovely time to visit, but the temperatures are getting quite high which can be overwhelming for younger children. Plus you need to regularly apply sun cream and make sure that everyone is drinking plenty. The parks have average wait times for rides and crowd levels are moderate usually. Splitting your days into two to avoid the afternoon heat may be necessary.

It’s a short holiday, so visiting for 14 days may not be possible. This is something to keep in mind if you are looking to maximise the value of your park tickets.

Pros

Cons

More affordable pricing

Only a week long

Great water park weather

It’s hot

Long, light days

Park ticket cost moderate, but may not be able to maximise value if trip is only 7 days

Summer Holidays

The last two weeks are often the best two weeks to choose as US schools go back around this time and crowds levels fall. It’s still very hot, and downpours around mid-afternoon are usually a daily occurrence. Mickey’s Not SO Scary Halloween Party has begun in August for the last few years, so this a great time to visit if you want to experience that famous party.

There are many pros to taking the children to Disney World during the UK school holidays, including lower Magic Ticket prices. Not only do you have less stress around potential travel delays and getting children back into school, there is also time for them to readjust to the time difference when they get home. This is definitely something to consider with toddlers and children in key stage one at primary school.

Pros

Cons

Cheapest UK Magic Ticket prices

Hot weather

More flexibility around booking dates as children off for 6 weeks

Busy during the beginning of the holidays as both US and UK schools are off

No juggling jet lag and early school mornings

Hurricane Season

October Half Term

The temperatures are cooler, and Disney World is full of Halloween magic. The International Food and Wine festival is on in EPCOT which is great for the adults, and kids who may enjoy taking part in collecting stamps for treats as you try food around the world. Perfect for school aged children of all ages, this is a great time to visit if you have kids split across high school and primary school.

This holiday is short, so this is an ideal time to visit if you are looking for a short trip, but you may not get maximum value out of park tickets.

Pros

Cons

Halloween decorations

School holiday is only a week long

Temperatures cooling down

Won’t get full value out of park tickets

Christmas Holidays

The priciest and busiest time to visit Walt Disney World from the UK. From meeting Santa to experiencing different ride overlays, Disney World is a different place at Christmas. Visiting at this time of year is often better with older children who have maybe outgrown the festive magic at home, but can be captured by the magic of the holidays at Disney.

Pros

Cons

Festive decorations are magical

Busiest time to visit with peak crowd levels

Extra free events, like Christmas Tree Stroll

Most expensive time of the year to visit

Christmas ride-overlays

High wait times for rides during Christmas week

Cheapest School Holiday

For families looking to get value and travel on a budget, the 6 week summer holidays may offer the best value. Although flight fares can be higher at this time, Disney World tickets and hotels are not more expensive for UK families at this time. If you’re looking for that 14 day experience, the end of August will work out the cheapest UK school holiday to visit Walt Disney World.

Best School Holiday for Weather

Either Christmas or February is best, as you can maximise your days in the parks, but may miss out on water parks if temperatures are too low. If a water park trip is important to your family Easter or October half term will be the best time to visit Walt Disney World from a weather perspective. The temperatures are not too high, but hot enough to enjoy some time exploring the water parks and wearing shorts and t-shirt.

Best School Holiday for holidays of 2 weeks or more

The 6-week school summer holidays are often best for a holiday to Disney World that is longer. Easter or Spring, and Christmas can also work out as good school holiday to visit for two weeks if you need some time to unwind during the school year.

Disney World holidays in the summer holidays is less stressful because school term dates do not tie you down by one or two days, and you have flexibility to look for the best prices over a few weeks. Jet lag adjustments are also easier over the summer holidays for children, who can struggle more on the flight back to the UK.

Juggling school holidays and extra-curricular activities can be tricky to book a Disney World holiday around. Finding the best time to visit for your family is about balancing, cost, weather, experience, and school holiday dates.
