Monorail hotels have great views and great transport

Disney World’s monorail hotels are also the hotels closest hotel to Magic Kingdom and all three have not only the benefit of being on the monorail loop, you can also watch Happily Every After fireworks every night of your stay from your resort without going into Magic Kingdom. Choosing to stay on the monorail loop in a monorail hotel is a big decision for UK visitors as these are all Deluxe tier hotels, so it’s a luxury experience with a matching price tag.

What are the monorail hotels?

The monorail hotels are three Deluxe tier hotels:

What is the Monorail Resort Loop?

The monorail resort loop is the exclusive route that is meant for resort use only, and is one of three routes on Disney’s monorail system. The monorail system has 2 other routes and you can read about using the monorail at Disney World in Using The Free Disney Monorail System: Routes, Park Hopping, and Monorail Crawling. Each hotel on the loop has its own monorail stop directly connected to a hotel entrance, and there are a total of 5 stops on the resort exclusive route:

  1. Disney’s Ticket and Transportation Centre (TTC)
  2. Disney’s Polynesian Resort
  3. Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel and Spa
  4. Magic Kingdom
  5. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

What’s the same in every monorail hotel?

Every monorail resort is a UK equivalent to a 5* hotel, and is a Disney Deluxe Resort, offering excellent on-site amenities. While the resorts are very different, there are things that are the same no matter which monorail hotel you stay in:

With so many similarities it can make choosing between the Monorail hotels difficult, which is why you need to consider the differences next.

What are the differences between Monorail hotels?

The differences between monorail hotels lie mainly in the theming and feel of the resorts and room design:

Monorail only gets you to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom

The monorail resorts are the ones many UK planners dream about, but they're also the ones most likely to blow the accommodation budget, so it's worth weighing it up honestly before you spend on your accommodation. While the resorts are a wonderful experience, most UK visitors may feel like money is better spent on experiences elsewhere, especially if looking for a 14-night stay.

Is it worth staying in a monorail hotel?

Yes, but it’s not necessarily the monorail that’s going to be the deciding factor. Disney’s 3 monorail hotels each have unique luxury themes and hotel scents, not to mention the fact that they offer 5* hotel experiences. Staying in a monorail hotel is worth it, for a couple of days because:

  • you get to explore EPCOT and Magic Kingdom using the monorail system
  • you get to enjoy the best deluxe resort rooms Disney has to offer
  • it really is the once in a lifetime experience UK planners dream of

Staying in a monorail hotel for more than a few nights may be something you’d enjoy, but from a cost and practical perspective it isn’t worth it for UK visitors. 14-nights is definitely not worth it from a cash perspective, given the amount of time you are not in resort, and that from a transport perspective you will catch the bus to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

How much does it cost to stay in a monorail hotel?

The cost to stay in a monorail hotel per night is higher than staying at any other resort, and if you choose a Deluxe Villa option at these resorts you’ll pay even more. But you will inevitably look at the Bungalows at The Polynesian and think yes please. Here is the price range per night to help you decide if it is within your UK holiday budget:

Monorail hotel

Price range per night

Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel and Spa

£610 - £1,010

Disney’s Polynesian Resort

£565 - £986

Disney Contemporary Resort

£468 - £815

Prices based on staying in a Standard room in 2026, prices will vary based on date of stay, this is to help with budgeting costs and is a guide

Monorail Hotels Ranked: Which Monorail hotel should UK visitors choose?

  1. Top choice is The Grand Floridian, but it’s a close first to The Polynesian. The Mary Poppins rooms are what made it top choice for me.
  2. Second choice is The Polynesian, and its a close second as this resort has the best atmosphere.
  3. Third is The Contemporary Resort.

Why Choose The Grand Floridian?

The Grand Floridian is Disney’s flagship hotel, known for its luxury and Victorian elegance. It's the most expensive of the three, and the one people book for a reason: honeymoons, anniversaries, big-milestone trips, or simply a first visit you want to feel special.

Dining is a genuine draw if you like trying new food, including Disney's most upscale restaurant, The Dining Room at Victoria & Albert's. If you want the grand feel, and to feel like a princess walking down the stairs into the main lobby this is the monorail option to choose.

Why Choose The Polynesian?

The Polynesian is the relaxed, tropical option with torch-lit walkways, and a white-sand beach on the Seven Seas Lagoon. It's the monorail hotel option that strikes a nice balance: more atmosphere than the Contemporary, less formality, (and a lower nightly rate), than the Grand Floridian. Plus, the beach gives you some of the best fireworks and sunset views on property.

Why Choose The Contemporary?

This is the monorail resort for huge monorail fans who like the idea of staying in a hotel where the monorail runs through the centre. It’s got a more compact design than the other 2 monorail hotels. It’s the shortest walk to Magic Kingdom and the least atmospheric of the 3 monorail loop hotels. Choose this one because of the monorail novelty.

Monorail hotels vs Disney Skyliner hotels: which is best for UK visitors?

For UK visitors looking to book a hotel that has a unique form of Disney free transportation operating from the resort, the Skyliner resorts can be a better option, for an equally unique experience. The Disney Skyliner resorts are Value and Moderate level hotels and offer a more affordable price point for 14-night holidays for most UK visitors. The Value Skyliner hotels are Pop Century and Art of Animation, but they provide a very different type of Disney Resort experience to a monorail hotel.

UK visitors are best choosing split stays for monorail hotels: why?

A split stay in multiple Disney resorts or a combination of off-site and on-site hotels is often the best way for UK visitors to enjoy the Disney Deluxe hotels on the Monorail loop. A split stay helps to keep hotel costs down, while letting you enjoy resorts and have the Deluxe level experience. Planning a Magic Kingdom day and a resort day is a great way to get the most out of a stay in a monorail hotel without potentially leaving your bank account crying.

Questions about Disney’s Monorail Hotels

Do you have to stay at a monorail resort to ride the monorail?

No. Disney's internal transport is free for all guests, including those not staying at a Disney resort. Anyone can ride, which is what makes a "monorail crawl" - hopping between the three resorts for a drink, a meal or a look around - such a popular free afternoon out.

Which Disney World resorts are on the monorail?

Three Disney resorts sit on the Resort Monorail loop: Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. There’s the option to change at the Transportation and Ticket Center for EPCOT too if you stay in one of these hotels.

Which monorail resort is closest to Magic Kingdom?

The Contemporary. It's a stroll of under ten minutes from the door of hotel into the Magic Kingdom. There's also a connected walking path running round from the Contemporary to the TTC, taking in Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian.

Are all the monorail resorts Deluxe?

Yes, all three monorail resorts are Deluxe resorts, Disney's top accommodation tier. That's why they carry the largest rooms, the best pools and the widest dining choice, along with the premium nightly price.
