The new Indiana Jones ride in Disney World was a big topic during D23’s Entertainment Showcase as new information was shared including its official name, the giant serpent at the centre of its story, and a first look at an Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic based on Harrison Ford. The man himself even dropped by in a reel to share the exciting animatronic news. The attraction will be called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent and is one of the two headline rides in the new Tropical Americas land. News about the Encanto ride, it’s vehicles and storyline also dropped during the D23 event.

What were the Indiana Jones Ride announcements at D23?
The ride name, more of its story, the giant serpent character and the Harrison Ford-based Indiana Jones figure are the key announcements from the D23 segment:
What’s the ride name? | Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent |
Is there a Harrison Ford Audio-Animatronic? | Yes, it’s in development now. |
The ride story in a nutshell? | Join Indiana Jones as he explores a remarkably preserved Maya temple close to a cenote. Local legend links the temple to a passage into the Maya Underworld, with a giant serpentine creature guarding the way. |
Is there really a big snake animatronic? | Yes, that was one of the reveals, but it’s being billed as a mythical creature, even though it looks like a snake. |
What’s the Jade Serpent in the new Indiana Jones ride?
The Jade Serpent is the mythical creature at the heart of the attraction's new adventure. The huge serpentine creature, a mythical Tsukán, will be part of the ride story as riders encounter this figure during their journey through the temple and into the Underworld. Disney Imagineers are bringing the creature into the physical attraction, including work on a large Audio-Animatronic figure.

Riders won’t only get to meet the serpent, apparently you’ll encounter much more than the along the way. It was revealed the attraction includes giant bats, large scorpions, fire and, inevitably for an Indiana Jones adventure, snakes.
The Tsukán is expected to appear at several points before becoming part of the attraction's final confrontation. It sounded as if it would be replacing the large dinosaur animatronic at the end of the Dinosaur ride. With a large snake animatronic this ride is clearly not going to be for everyone. This contrasts Encanto’s ride announcements during D23, which will also be in Tropical Americas but offer a family ride experience with interesting house themed ride vehicles and no height requirement.
Will the new Indiana Jones animatronic look like Harrison Ford?
Yes, in an exciting reveal segment Harrison Ford's likeness is being used for the attraction's Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic. Ford appeared during Disney's D23 presentation to reveal his involvement, while Imagineers showed the digital model being used to create the character.
This will be the first theme park attraction to feature Ford's likeness as Indiana Jones in this way.
Magic in a Minute
D23 has now answered many of the interesting creative questions surrounding the Indiana Jones attraction: we know its name, considerably more about its story, what the mythical creature looks like and how Disney is bringing Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones into the ride.
What Disney still hasn't answered is the question that matters when booking flights and a Walt Disney World holiday from Britain: will it open with Tropical Americas in 2027 and if so when?
