The cost of a flight to Orlando, Florida from the UK in 2026 varies depending on the airport you fly to, the UK airport you depart form, the time of year, taxes, the class you fly in, and even geo-political influences. With no fixed average, finding the best flight price for a flight comes down to your budget and knowing what goes into Orlando flight pricing.

Understanding The Cost Of Florida Flights From The UK

In 2026, flight costs to get to Orlando feel expensive and if you’re anything like me you wonder exactly where your money goes. The cost of flying to any part of Florida from the UK can be broken down into these areas:

  • UK taxes,
  • US taxes,
  • Airport charges
  • Airline charges

These groups of charges add up to make the total flight cost. Taxes are fixed costs like government taxes, others vary by airport, and then there’s what the airline charges. This is what a Florida flight cost breakdown looks like for a seat in Economy class, with each of the costs added on from the UK:

Why Are the Taxes On Flights To Orlando So High in 2026?

The taxes on all flights to Florida, including those to Orlando for Disney World and Universal holidays are high largely because of Air Passenger Duty which is charged only on outbound flights from the UK. It’s increased in price for the last few years, but in 2026 it reached over the £100 mark for Band B flights between 2,001 and 5,500 miles, which Florida flights fall into. This has contributed to rising Florida flight costs, and APD is the largest tax to pay on your outbound flight, accounting for just over two thirds of the tax bill. APD cost will also continue to rise roughly inline with inflation in 2027 and 2028.

For every adult Economy flight ticket to Florida, roughly the first £150 of the price is UK and US government fees. The US government add lots of small taxes, whereas the UK government charge a hefty Air Passenger Duty (APD) tax that changes based on what class you fly in.

Government fees do not change no matter who you fly with, but the price the airline charges for your seat can change by day, which is why flight prices change so much. Part of the reason why prices change so much is airline dynamic pricing, which reflects demand for a flight and what’s going on in the world at the time.

Fuel Shortages

In 2026, due to fuel shortages, some airlines have also started adding on extra fuel charges. These are not taxes, but they are additional airline charges where the airlines is passing higher costs onto the consumer. Fuel surcharges have not been uniform and whether you pay them varies between airlines, but where airlines have imposed fuel surcharges this has been increasing flight prices.

How Much Does A Flight To Orlando Cost In 2026?

Florida flight costs vary and there is no set price for a flight in 2026. Florida flight prices vary considerably and are affected by :

  • the airline you fly with
  • the time of year you fly
  • when you book your flights
  • geo-political and social factors
  • demand
  • what class you fly in

A good Florida flight price in 2026, in my opinion would be around £550 return per person for a direct flight from a UK airport to an Orlando area airport with hold-luggage and hand luggage included, with either Virgin Atlantic or British Airways.

Orlando Flight Cost Comparison: Economy

Economy is the cheapest class to fly to Florida in across all airlines, although there are some difference in what an Economy flight can look like and what you can remove to make the cost cheaper. This is a comparison of the cost of a Florida flight in Economy Classic with 1 checked bag and 1 piece of hand luggage to Orlando International Airport (MCO) from Manchester, Heathrow and Gatwick with Norse Atlantic, Virgin Atlantic, and British Airways on 8th December 2026.

Prices to fly to Florida vary by £363 a person on an outbound flight on 8th December 2026, showing just what a difference comparing flight prices with different airlines can make to your flight cost.

When’s The Cheapest Time Of Year To Fly?

The cheapest time of year to fly is typically during shoulder seasons when demand is lower, so when children are on school and there are no seasonal or UK bank holidays. However, you can find cheap flights at these times of year, so there is an element of chance ad dedication to monitoring prices when it comes to finding the cheapest prices.

How Much Does It Cost to Upgrade Seats?

Upgrading seats on an Orlando flight varies in price depending on the airline and the class you upgrade to. UK APD also increases with upgrades, so you’ll pay more tax on the flight price.

Upgrading to Premium Economy

For flights on 8th December 2026 to Orlando International Airport (MCO) the cost to upgrade from Economy Classic to Premium Economy is:

Airline

Classic Economy Cost

£434

Prices checked direct with airlines on their websites on 10th August 2026. Each airline has a slightly different name for their premium economy experience, but this is the equivalent which offers a better flight experience than Economy Classic.

Norse Atlantic Airways and Virgin Atlantic charge between £11 and £133.30 to upgrade from Economy Classic to Premium Economy. British Airways charge the most to upgrade on the 8th December 2026, with a price tag of £434 more to sit in Premium Economy instead of Economy Classic.

Upgrading to Business Class

For flights to Orlando International Airport on 8th December 2026 the cost to upgrade from Economy Classic to a Business Class equivalent with each different airline is as follows:

Airline

Classic Economy Cost

Business Class Cost

Price Difference (£)

Norse Atlantic

£304

£639

£335

Virgin Atlantic (LHR)

£677.69

£1,396.69

£768.30

British Airways

£402

£1,647

£1,245

Prices checked direct with airlines on their websites on 10th August 2026

The price difference between flying in Economy Classic and Business Class is high, and it’s a big jump per adult on a one-way flight, with prices costing between £335 to £1,245 more.

It’s worth noting that the difference in experience between airlines matters when you upgrade, and a business class experience with Norse Atlantic is not the same as with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic. Norse Airways very much offer the budget airline experience and upgrades follow the same budget parameters.

Are Budget Airlines Actually Cheaper to Florida?

Yes, the price is genuinely lower for the same baggage and route; it’s the flight experience that varies. Norse Atlantic is the only budget airline flying to Orlando from the UK offering direct flights. The flight experience will feel budget in comparison to other UK carriers, even when you upgrade, but the price differences can mean this is a trade-off some UK holidaymakers happily make.

How Do You Get Cheaper Orlando Flights?

Florida flight prices do fluctuate so if you are looking to book tracking prices and having a budget in mind become part of the strategy to get flights at the price you want. Cheaper flight prices can involve making compromises such as flying with a budget airline, considering different airports, and routes. The key with finding cheaper flights is to make sure that you compare everything that you need included for a Florida holiday, not just the headline flight price after a search.

Direct vs. Indirect: How Much Can You Save On An Orlando Flight?

An indirect flight is not always a cheaper option when it comes to Florida flight costs. On some dates an indirect flight can save you money, but on others it can be more expensive. Here is an example on 2nd December 2026:

Direct Option

Cost per person (£)

Indirect Option

Cost per person (£)

Norse Airways: booking direct

LGW - MCO (9hrs 40)

£263

British Airways / booking with Skywings

LGW - MAD- MCO (13hrs 05)

£358.34

British Airways: booking direct

LGW - MCO (9hrs 55)

£402

British Airways / booking with Skywings

LGW - MAD- MCO (13hrs 05)

£358.34

Prices checked on 10th August 2026.

The example above shows an indirect flight would cost £95.34 more, and it would also add 4 hours onto journey time, not to mention flying on two planes. While indirect flights are always worth checking, especially at busy times including during School holidays, Easter, and Christmas, this example shows it’s not always the way to get a cheaper flight. Making the choice between an indirect or a direct Florida flight comes down to more than just pricing.

However, if you compared the British Airways indirect option with a direct British Airways direct flight option, you would save £43.66 per person. This is not a huge saving, but adds up for families. It shows that if flying with a specific airline to Florida matters for your holiday, savings can be made flying indirect. However you need to weigh up the saving with the inconvenience of a longer travel day.

Orlando flight costs vary throughout the course of the day. When you plan to fly matters, but not as much as the compromises you are willing to make to get the price that works for your flight budget.
