Closing Typhoon Lagoon due to cold weather, again

It’s another closure update for Typhoon Lagoon which has been closed for 16 days since 1st January 2026. UK visitors need to consider these closures when trip planning at the moment, as cold weather is impacting Disney water park operations.

Orlando's cold snap has already brought rare scenes including icicles hanging off fountains in Disney parks and off the iconic Universal globe, and it’s still disrupting water-park plans for visitors across the area. Typhoon Lagoon is only just reopening today, to close again tomorrow due to the cold temperatures!

Typhoon Lagoon’s Next Closure: Key Info

What's happening: Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is open today, Wednesday 4 February, 10am-5pm.

What's next: It's closed again on Thursday 5th February and Friday 6th February due to another cold front.

Why Is Typhoon Lagoon Closing Again?

It is not unusual for Disney to close water parks during this time of year. But what is currently having a big impact on UK visitors is the current frequency of closures due to the unprecedented cold weather Florida has been experiencing. Read more about that in Rare Freezing Cold Snap Forecast.

Disney does switch operations day-by-day, especially in the winter months including January and February, depending on overnight temps and windchill. The week of the 12th January 2026 the water parks were closed, as well as the closures that hit overt the weekend just gone. The best planning approach for water park visits this weekend and into next week is to treat water park plans as moveable plans, and check opening times daily. You also need to have a back-up plan in mind.

Seasonal Closure Coming Soon

An important point to note for UK visitors is that Typhoon Lagoon will also be closed from 15th February for routine maintenance. So, if experiencing this particular water park is on your to do list in the next two weeks, you need to work some flexibility into your plans to visit when it is open.

Blizzard Beach will reopen on the 15th February 2026, so if you don’t mind which Disney water park you experience, you’ll be able to head here instead, weather permitting.

What To Do If Water Parks Close

Sometimes on a Disney World holiday from the UK things don’t go to plan, and sudden water park closures due to weather happens. Here are a few options you can do instead of the water park this weekend while the weather remains chilly.

Option A: Make it a full park day

Pick a park that works well in cooler weather and enjoy a full day in the parks to catch up on rides you may not have done yet:

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios: Lots of indoor attractions and covered shows like Frozen Sing Along Celebration.

  • EPCOT: easy pace and plenty of indoor pavilions to explore. The Kidcot Fun Stops are a great choice for the cold weather.

Option B: Disney Springs

This is a great option for both resort and non-resort guests. With plenty to do, you’ll be able to stay warm and pick up a few souvenirs:

  • shopping + snacks

  • indoor dining

  • cinema / bowling options

Option C: Hire Car

If you've got a car, then you have lots of great options to stay warm, here are a few:

  • trip to the outlets: Vinelands is nearest Disney or head to to the one on International Drive

  • The Apopka Wildlife Drive is free and about an hours drive away

  • Head out to the Kennedy Space Centre for the day, where you can explore space craft inside buildings.
