No Disney Water Parks Open This Week As Orlando Cools Down

Too chilly for Typhoon Lagoon to open

Walt Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon will remain closed through at least Friday 16th January 2026 as a cold snap moves through Central Florida, with operating hours currently listed again from Saturday 17th January, but that' will be weather-dependent.

For UK visitors already in Florida, or arriving this week, the timing matters, because Disney's other water park, Blizzard Beach, is currently unavailable. Blizzard Beach is not scheduled to reopen until 15th February 2026.

What's Driving The Closure?

Florida's winter swings are nothing new, but water parks are particularly vulnerable when overnight lows drop and daytime temperatures stay on the mild side. Forecasts for Orlando show a noticeably cooler back half of the week, including overnight lows heading towards the single digits Celsius. For Floridians, this is chilly and at Disney World it results in water park closures.

One widely shared set of reported temperatures shows the week’s temperatures trending down like this:

  • Monday: 49°F / 71°F (9°C / 22°C)

  • Tuesday: 54°F / 72°F (12°C / 22°C)

  • Wednesday: 54°F / 66°F (12°C / 19°C)

  • Thursday: 42°F / 60°F (6°C / 16°C)

  • Friday: 35°F / 57°F (2°C / 14°C)

Different forecasts vary by a few degrees, but the direction is the same: a warmer start, then a sharper cool-down later in the week.

UK comparison: what it'll feel like

Here’s a comparison of the weather in Orlando vs the weather in London over the next 5 days:

Date (2026)

Orlando low / high (°C)

London low / high (°C)

8 / 11

Afternoon like a mild UK late spring day, but evenings closer to typical London

Tue 13 Jan

2 / 11

Warm daytime, but don't be fooled-nights still cool

Wed 14 Jan

12 / 19

6 / 7

Like a decent UK spring afternoon, but not water-park comfy all day

Thu 15 Jan

6 / 16

6 / 10

Starts to feel much more UK-like, especially mornings/evenings

Fri 16 Jan

Early morning low is UK-winter territory-one reason closures happen

Looking at the table you may feel Orlando is still posting nice highs, but water parks can feel dramatically cooler in winter conditions once you add wind and being wet. And Orlando weather outlets are forecasting that there will be a significant wind chill too. The National Weather Service have reported that there will be:

"Sharply colder air Thursday night with a wind chill; Freezing temperatures possible north of Orlando Friday morning"

What To Do Instead This Week

If you had a Typhoon Lagoon day planned, here are low-stress pivots that still feel like a Disney day:

Chill weather: head to a park with more under cover attractions if you feel the cold. Choose from either:

  • EPCOT where it is easy to build an indoor-heavy day in and out of the pavilions.

  • Hollywood Studios has plenty of shows and indoor attractions.

Have a non-park day towards the end of the week to escape the chilliest days on Thursday and Friday by heading to Disney Springs for shopping and food. You could even catch a show at Cirque Du Soleil. Alternatively, you could go resort hopping for an easier day if your group is tired and the weather is turning.

If a water park day is still high on your to do list, check Typhoon Lagoon’s status in the My Disney Experience app towards the end of the week. Winter operating changes can be last-minute, so if the cold snap lasts, there is no guarantee it will be open Saturday even though the park times are posted now.

Other Closures Beginning This Week

January is infamously known as the start of refurbishment season in Disney World, and 2026 is no exception. Also closing this week for planned refurbishments, starting from 12th January:

  • Wilderness Lodge boat dock maintenance, with boat transport expected to be temporarily suspended 12th-30th January, then resume 31st January, although work continues into early April.

  • EPCOT Refreshment Port closing for refurbishment with reopening date currently not confirmed.

  • Disney Springs Lime Garage refurbishment 12th January-13th March, with a brief reopening window in mid-February.

Magic In A Minute

An cold snap un Florida means that Disney will not have a water park open for the next 5 days. This comes as refurbishment season gets underway and other closures also start this week. UK visitors planning water park days this week need to move to Plan B.
