Disney Imagineering has announced that the new fan favourite Olaf animatronic that had a viral melt down during opening week, is going to be coming to other Disney Parks around the world, including Walt Disney World.

Magic in a minute

  • Disney says its new walking Olaf AI animatronic that has just debuted at in World of Frozen at Disney Adventure World is planned for Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line, but no Florida opening date has been announced.

  • The character officially made his debut on 29th March 2026 and is already a fan favourite.

  • For UK visitors, the nearest place to see Disney's newest Olaf technology is Disneyland Paris, not Walt Disney World, Florida. However, he is coming soon.

Disney confirm walking Olaf coming to Walt Disney World

The walking, talking Olaf now appearing at Disneyland Paris has stolen the hearts of Disney fans worldwide, and in a recent interview with Fast Company, Kyle Laughlin, Senior Vice President for Research and Development, Walt Disney Imagineering said:

"He's one of our most popular characters, so domestically you'll also see him as well. That's really kind of the important point: We really are building these now for operations and to ensure that they're everywhere."
Kyle Laughlin, Senior Vice President for Research and Development, Walt Disney Imagineering

Olaf will be coming to Walt Disney World in the future, alongside Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line. The key missing detail is timing; Disney has not yet announced when the new Olaf will debut in any of these locations.

What is clear is that there is going to be a move in the way some character interactions take place. Moving from characters who are human-based, to AI robotic characters, Kyle went on to say:

"The North Star goal that we have is to be able to have that huggable moment"
Kyle Laughlin

The goal of the walking, talking Olaf animatronic is that it will interact more with visitors and that the way it is being used in Disneyland Paris right now is just the beginning.

Where can you see the walking Olaf now?

World of Frozen inside Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris is the closest location for UK visitors to see the walking, talking robotic Olaf animatronic now. He participates in A Celebration in Arendelle and you can also see him at meet and greets.

The first week was not without it’s glitches as Cast Members get to grips with the new technology, and Olaf effectively died whilst ‘on stage’.

How will this technology change character meet and greets in the future?

Disneyland Paris is currently acting as the testing ground for the Olaf AI animatronic, which is unusual and fortunate for UK visitors who get to experience this new technology first-hand.

Disney is clearly excited about Olaf, but its clear to see the company is still easing the character into day-to-day operations. Olaf is part of a broader robotics push for character interactions and it will be interesting to see how the technology is translated into other characters.

The main issues at the moment seem to be around how the free roaming element can be safely built-in to the parks to enhance the guest experience while also keeping Cast Members and the technology safe.

Why the new Olaf is important for Walt Disney World?

Because it's a preview of Disney's next generation of character experiences at Walt Disney World, not just a new Frozen meet-and-greet. This matters because it signals more lifelike, mobile, guest-facing characters could be coming to Florida in the near future.

Frozen Ever After in EPCOT is already a very popular land with long wait times throughout the day and is the likely home for an AI Olaf animatronic. The Princess Elsa and Anna meet and greets at Royal Summerhaus is also very popular, so it would make sense to bring Olaf to the Norway pavilion. Hollywood Studios is also a possibility, as both the Frozen Sing-Along show and Olaf draws! are located there.

If you’re looking to get a glimpse of Disney Imaginnering’s latest AI technology head to Disneyland Paris and World of Frozen, but if you have a Walt Disney World trip planned for 2027 and beyond, you may well get to see him there too! Don’t forget to follow along to find out when Olaf is heading to Walt Disney World.
