New Feature Films & Movie Premieres on Disney+ This March

While Disney+ often leans on series, March 2026 features a rare direct-to-streaming blockbuster and significant documentary work.

  1. Zootopia 2 (11th March): This is the crown jewel of the month. After its massive theatrical run, it's migrating to streaming featuring villain Gary De’Snake

  2. Ghost Elephants (8th March): A National Geographic original directed by the legendary Werner Herzog. It follows Dr. Steve Boyes in search of a mythical herd in Angola.

  3. Rental Family (18th March): A Searchlight Pictures film starring Brendan Fraser. It's a quirky, heart-tugging story about an actor who takes a job at a Japanese rental family agency.

  4. Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (27th March): An action-comedy

  5. Versa (27th March): A new experimental short film from the Disney Animation team.

Zootropolis 2: A Blockbuster Film Experience At Home

After becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time during its late 2025 theatrical run, Zootropolis 2 officially arrives on Disney+ UK on Wednesday, 11th March.

The Plot: Rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves in "Partners in Crisis" counselling, only for their dynamic to be tested by a new threat. This time, they are on the trail of Gary De'Snake, a mysterious venomous reptile voiced by Ke Huy Quan.

The Return: Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

The Devil of Hell's Kitchen is back. Starting 25th March, Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again begins its weekly rollout.

This season, Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) is officially at war with the city's vigilantes. You’ll also find the highly anticipated return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and the introduction of Matthew Lillard as the enigmatic "Mr. Charles."

Werner Herzog's Ghost Elephants: A Prestige

While the blockbusters grab the headlines, the real cinematic event of March on Disney+ might well be Ghost Elephants. Directed and narrated by the legendary Werner Herzog, this National Geographic documentary is a hauntingly, beautiful exploration of nature and myth.

Werner Herzog Ghost Elephants: What to Expect

Following National Geographic Explorer Dr. Steve Boyes, the film ventures into the remote highlands of Angola. The mission? To find a legendary population of "Ghost Elephants" believed by the Indigenous Khoi San trackers to be spirits of the forest. Herzog's signature philosophical narration lifts this from a standard nature doc into a profound meditation on humanity's connection to the wild.

Rental Family Plot Explained: Brendan Fraser's New Dramedy

Searchlight Pictures brings us Rental Family on 18th March on Disney+, featuring an Oscar-calibre performance from Brendan Fraser.

What is the Rental Family plot?

Rental Family is a film that follows a down-on-his-luck American actor living in Tokyo. To make ends meet, he takes a job with a Japanese "rental family" company; an agency where people hire actors to play missing relatives, spouses, or friends for social events.

The film’s not-so original twist lies in the realisation that what starts as a desperate gig becomes a journey of self-discovery as he learns that playing a perfect father for others might be the only way to heal his own broken past. It's a fish-out-of-water story that balances Japanese cultural nuances with universal themes of belonging.

Versa: A Celestial Animated Short

For fans of high-art animation, Versa is the most anticipated release of the month. Directed by Disney veteran Malcon Pierce, (Moana), this six-minute experimental short is being hailed as a mature and deeply moving departure for the studio.

Versa tells the story of a celestial couple traversing the galaxy in an ethereal cosmic dance.

The short’s theme is mature and inspired by the director's personal experience with infant loss, exploring grief and hope through choreography rather than dialogue.

If you love the visual nuances in Disney shorts be sure to look out for the Kintsugi metaphor. It’s the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, quite a common visual representation for learning to love the broken parts of yourself and which serves as a powerful symbol of healing throughout the short.
