Mears Connect a popular transfer option for many UK visitors heading to Disney resorts from MCO have announced that they will be adding a 3% surcharge to all reservations with immediate effect. This will impact Disney World holiday makers using this service, but it is not a big increase and is in response to rising fuel costs.

How much is the surcharge in GBP?

Mears Connect remains one of the more reliable and competitively priced coach options for getting from MCO to Disney Resorts, and the new 3% surcharge only adds a small amount to current prices.

Ticket type

One-way ticket cost

Total with new surcharge

Tickets aged 10+ (adult)

$16 (£12.16)

$0.48 (£0.36)

$16.48 (£12.53)

Tickets aged 3-9 (child)

$13 (£9.88)

$0.39 (£0.30)

$13.39 (£10.18)

There is also an airport service surcharge called PFRC of $1.60 (£1.22) for over 10’s and $1.30 (£0.99) added to the cost for both one-way and return trips.

The total increase will result in a very modest amount being added to the cost of a return trip to and from MCO to Disney Resorts using Mears Connect:

  • A couple will pay $1.92 (£1.46) more

  • A family of four with two aged 3-9’s will pay $3.44 (£2.61) more

  • A UK family of four with two children 10 and over will pay $3.84 (£2.92) more

Why is Mears Connect adding a surcharge?

Fuel costs have gone up in America, just like they have here in the UK because of events in Iran. Just as jet fuel costs have been impacted so too have petrol costs. While rising jet fuel costs are likely to have an impact on Florida flight costs later in the year, the impact for businesses involving cars and buses is immediate. This sudden surcharge represents companies passing on this unexpected increase in running costs to customers. It does suggest that Mears Connect operates with fairly tight margins, which is represented in the pricing which mainly people find good value.

Mears Connect has the following notification displayed on their website:

"Please Be Advised: A 3% Fuel Surcharge Will Be Added to All Reservations Until Further Notice - Thank You"

Anyone budgeting for car hire for their Disney World holiday needs to be looking at would be looking at doubling their fuel budget. The cost of Ubers and Lyfts may also be priced at a higher price point currently, so adding more to the transport budget is a good idea.

Is the surcharge permanent?

Mears Connect have said that the charge is “until further notice”. This suggests that the surcharge may not be permanent, however this has not been confirmed. It may become part of the price if fuel costs remain high.

Impact on UK to Disney World holidaymaker’s budget

This price rise is not going to make a dent in the budget or impact your trip negatively. It is however an indication that there is growing pressure on businesses struggling with the rising cost of fuel, who may end up passing costs on to travellers in the form of surcharges. This is not something to worry about, but adding a buffer to any travel expenses means you can absorb any other changes.

Magic in a Minute

Mears Connect, a popular coach service transferring guests between MCO and Disney Resorts has imposed a surcharge of 3% on top of current prices. This small amount is a ripple in your budgeting for a Disney World holiday from the UK, but it is a sign of the impact of increasing fuel costs both here in the UK and in the US.
