Disney+ is adding Formula E to its UK offering, with subscribers set to get live coverage of every race, qualifying session, and practice session from the start of the 2026/27 season. The new multi-year deal begins on 18th December 2026, when Formula E's new GEN4 era gets underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Disney+ & Formula E: What You Need To Know

Formula E is coming to Disney+ in the UK as part of a new global streaming deal, as Disney step-up their Formula One partnership.

When does Formula E start on Disney+?

Coverage begins with the start of the new season over the weekend of 18th December 2026.

What can UK Disney+ subscribers watch?

Every practice session, qualifying session and race, plus replays, highlights, analysis and supporting programmes.

Will Formula E cost extra on Disney+?

No, at this time it looks like you’ll be able to watch Formula E races as part of a regular subscription.

Formula E is coming to Disney+ in the UK

Disney+ will become the global streaming home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season under a new multi-year agreement covering 144 territories.

For UK subscribers, that means significantly more than simply being able to switch on for the main race. Disney+ will carry every Formula E practice session, qualifying session and race live, alongside:

  • preview and review programmes,

  • highlights,

  • analysis,

  • behind-the-scenes content and

  • full race replays available on demand after each event.

If you’re not a huge Formula E fan, the line-up of content Disney+ is putting together could give casual motorsport fans a chance to dip their toes into this exciting world. Rather than needing to seek out individual races or highlights, subscribers will have the whole race weekend available through a service many Disney households already use.

Disney Entertainment's Joe Earley said:

"We're excited to help power the championship's next chapter on Disney+ and to give fans around the globe front row access to every adrenaline-fueled race as it happens."

The company sees Formula E's mix of competition, technology and sustainability as particularly suited to Disney+, with the service giving viewers a chance to experience Disney storytelling with Formula E excitement.

When will Formula E start streaming on Disney+?

The first Disney+ race you can watch is Formula E’s opening race weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 18th December 2026, marking the start of the championship's 2026/27 season.

The calendar is set to include 21 races across 13 cities, with the championship running from Jeddah in December through to its season finale in Tokyo on 25th July 2027.

The Disney+ deal will also launch at the same time as an important technical change for the championship. Formula E is introducing its new GEN4 car, which produces up to 600kW of power, (that’s more than 815 horsepower), and is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in approximately 1.8 seconds. Formula E says that makes its acceleration around 30% quicker than a Formula 1 car.

So, if Disney+ is your first introduction to Formula E, you'll be arriving just as the championship begins a new generation rather than halfway through its current format.

What does the Disney+ deal mean for Formula E coverage in the UK?

Formula E already has free-to-air coverage in the UK through ITV for the current 2025/26 season, with ITV's agreement covering live races and qualifying through ITVX alongside selected ITV4 broadcasts.

The important point is that Disney+ has not described its new agreement as replacing Formula E's other broadcasters. Formula E says the Disney streaming arrangement will sit alongside its established free-to-air and traditional broadcast partnerships, giving viewers additional ways to watch.

ITV have extended their deal for Formula E for the next season and will remain the free-to-air arrangement for the 2026/27 season.

Disney and Formula E could work together beyond streaming

There is one intriguing part of the announcement for wider Disney fans. Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds said the championship is also interested in exploring additional ways for Formula E and Disney to work together beyond live race coverage. Now Disney have already been collaborating with Formula One and held events at Silverstone this year, as well creating exclusive merch.

For Disney World and Disney fans in the UK, the wider relationship is therefore something to keep an eye on, as it sounds like further collaborations could be on the horizon. Although this is not yet confirmed.

Why Formula E on Disney+ could be interesting for Disney fans

Even if you've never watched an E-Prix before, Formula E's arrival is another example of Disney+ becoming broader than the film-and-series library many families originally subscribed to access. For UK viewers in particular, having entire Formula E weekends sitting alongside Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic content may expose the championship to people who would never previously have gone looking for a motorsport broadcast.

Formula E itself appears to see that reach as one of the main attractions of the partnership. The championship says Disney's global streaming footprint gives it the opportunity to reach millions of additional households while retaining its relationships with existing broadcasters.

For UK viewers with Disney+ subscriptions, you'll soon have a lot more motorsport to watch.

Magic in a Minute

Formula E is becoming part of the Disney+ viewing line-up from December 2026. Subscribers will be getting the full race weekend, from practice through qualifying to the race itself, alongside extra programming and on-demand replays.
