The Opening Ceremony
Queues were building outside Selfridge’s in The Trafford Centre this morning with people queueing at all entrances for the opening of the new Disney Store concession. After being moved from the front of the store to a side entrance we joined a queue of about 100 people this morning, entering the store a few minutes before 10am for the key opening ceremony.
It was an exciting moment to see the big key come out to open the store with cheers going up from the gathered crowd in Selfridges. It’s clear that Disney fans in the North have missed having a true Disney Store to visit and this morning’s opening saw that legendary Disney Store magic sparkle in the Trafford Centre this morning. There was definitely a moment of 90’s nostalgia as the store opened.
The Concession’s Moved
Having been on the ground a couple of weeks ago following the confirmation announcement of the permanent Disney Store opening, we were a little concerned as the store was already open and operating. There was however nothing to worry about. The new Disney Store is completely different. It’s moved sides of the store and is now next to the Jelly Cat concession, which is arguably the best place for this concession.
There is more stock, and a nostalgic plushy wall at the back of the store. While the wall of bears is not the same as it was in the Disney Store in the 90’s it is nice to see that iconic look.
There is a statue of Mickey and Minnie at the front of the concession area, which replaces the Sorcerer Mickey which was in the centre of the previous concession. The Mickey and Minnie photo op is different from what’s on offer in Birmingham’s permanent concession in the Bull Ring, given the store a completely different feel. I actually prefer the Trafford Centre concession. The Sorcerer Mickey is still in store to see, just now located near the centre stairway.
What Products Are In The New Trafford Centre Disney Store?
As people milled around in the store this morning, it was packed, with a queue forming to get in the area to browse everything on offer.
The yellow Selfridge’s x Disney Store iconic yellow Winnie the Pooh soft toy range was prominent, along with fancy dress options for children, and a Halloween collection of Disney Store merchandise including the Boo You pastel range which is proving very popular. There was also Nightmare Before Christmas clothing, Halloween mugs, Mickey Ears, and Stitch and Mickey ceramic Halloween homeware.
Magic In A Minute
The new Disney Store concession opens in Selfridge’s at the Trafford Centre this morning with a key opening ceremony that drew a crowd of Disney fans. The Disney Store concession is a permanent fixture, giving Disney fans in the North of the UK a much needed place to browse and buy Disney Store products.
