Disney Dream Leaves Liverpool To Fireworks And Music

After last year's heart-breaking weather cancelation for the Disney Fantasy, Disney Cruise Line finally returned to Liverpool today and the city showed up in a way that proves the UK is starving for a permanent Disney presence. Riding the Magic were in Liverpool today and are sharing why the atmosphere at Pier Head tonight rivalled a Main Street USA fireworks show.

The Disney Dream docked in Liverpool about 7.50am this morning, marking Disney Cruise Line’s return to the city for the first time in two years. Last year adverse weather meant that the Disney Fantasy didn’t dock in Liverpool, even though they were scheduled to as part of Disney Cruise Line’s British Isles itinerary. The Liverpool Cruise Terminal is just a few minutes walk from the Albert Dock, with Liverpool One just beyond. Guests aboard the Disney Dream were able to walk the short distance into the city from the port before returning for around 6pm to prepare for the sail away party, which drew the crowds.

This stop marked the Disney Dream’s first port on the once a year 7-night British Isles Cruise offered by Disney Cruise Line. After departing Southampton on Monday 7th September, guests had spent the day at sea yesterday before arriving in Liverpool today to then depart this evening for Glasgow. And what a way to depart from your first stop…

Disney Dream Sail Away Fireworks In Liverpool

Music began on Pier Head at the strike of 6pm with an iconic tune from Universal’s Trolls movie, Can’t Stop The Feeling! by Justin Timberlake. The atmosphere on Pier Head felt similar to what you find standing in Main Street USA waiting for Happily Ever After or the Starlight parade. People were dressed in their Disney best, and plenty of people were walking around with Minnie Ears. There were also plenty of bubbles floating around from bubble wands.

The Disney Dream started to reverse back into position on front of the Liver Building a little after 7pm, before the fireworks began to cheers and gasps. With confetti swirling in the air, music playing and fireworks adding an extra sparkle to the setting sun.

To gasps from the crowd, two jets also flew over during the fireworks display adding a bit more of a wow factor for everyone watching.

The 5-10 minute fireworks ended with the Disney Dream going through a rendition of all her horns, including:

• the iconic “when you wish upon a star”

• the earworm “it’s a small world”

• Frozen’s “do you want to build a snowman”.

Cheers and woops could be heard both from the balconies of the Disney Dream and from the 1000’s of people gathered on Liverpool’s Pier Head.

As the Disney Dream set off towards her next stop Greenock, Glasgow, it was very clear that her presence today had brought a little bit of much wanted Disney magic to Liverpool.
