Disney confirm a room refurbishment program will begin in May 2026 through to January 2027 at popular Value resort All Star Movies. Many UK tourists will already have their holidays booked at this point, so refurbishment news is an unwelcome surprise.

The refurbishment is believed to be for soft furnishings in the rooms, and will not impact resort amenities, however some minimal disruption to guests is possible. For UK visitors who have saved for months, then waited possibly 12-18 months for their dream Disney World trip a refurbishment on-site is not usually part of that vision. Here we are looking at how your holiday could be impacted, if you should make last minute changes, and why a room refurbishment programme is less concerning than you might think. However, if you haven’t booked your 2026 trip yet, perhaps consider a different Value resort.

Refurbishment Details: All Star Movies

Resort Category: Value Resort

Project Start: Late May 2026

Anticipated Completion: Late January 2027

Impact: Guest rooms only.

Amenities Status: Both pools, dining, and transport remain fully open.

What This Means for Your Holiday

For UK travellers, who often stay for longer durations, typically 14 nights but up to 21 nights, construction news can be concerning. When you pay thousands of pounds for the Disney bubble experience, you don’t expect construction noise.

Disney has confirmed that the resort will remain open throughout the project, with work conducted in phases, block by block, to minimise the impact on guests. However, Disney has issued a standard advisory noting that guests staying at the resort during this period "may see or hear construction work in the area" during daytime hours. These hours are typically between 9:00am and 5:00pm.

Here is the official, brief, announcement from Walt Disney World:

"Beginning late May 2026, the rooms at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort will undergo planned refurbishment through the end of January 2027. During this time, Guests may see or hear construction work in the area, and alternate paths of travel may be in place."

Crucially for families wanting to cool off after a day in the parks, resort amenities will not be affected. The feature Fantasia Pool, the smaller Mighty Ducks Pool, and the World Premiere Food Court will remain fully operational during the refurbishment window. The July 2024 refurbishment of the food court had a bigger impact on visitors than the room upgrades are likely to.

The Scope of the Works

While Disney has not released specific details on the design changes, industry experts believe this will be a soft goods refresh. This typically involves replacing carpets, curtains, upholstery, and linens to address wear and tear, ensuring the rooms remain fresh. This has happened most recently over at Pop Century.

We expect that Disney is planning to work through this type of refurbishment across the Value resorts, and that they are starting at Movies before moving to Music then Sports. This refurbishment may mark the start of a couple of years of a soft good refresh over at the Value resorts.

This project comes relatively soon after the resort's last major overhaul, which was completed in 2021. That previous renovation replaced carpets with hard laminate flooring and introduced queen-size beds to the rooms, replacing the former double beds, which was a welcome upgrade for many UK families sharing rooms.

Advice for Travellers with Existing Bookings

If you have already have a booking at Disney's All-Star Movies for dates between end of May 2026 and January 2027, there is no immediate need to cancel. Because Disney refurbishes resorts in phases, they will take entire buildings out of inventory. You will not be placed in a room that is actively under construction.

If you are concerned about daytime noise, it is advisable to contact Disney or your travel agent to add a request to your booking asking to be placed in a building furthest from ongoing work. Currently, it is not known which sections (such as Toy Story, 101 Dalmatians, or Fantasia) will be tackled first.

If you have yet to book your 2026 Disney holiday, and the thought of any construction noise concerns you, avoid All Star Movies. If you are planning on booking a 2027 holiday, and want to stay at All Star Movies, any time after March 2027 should be good, leaving some leeway for completion.

If you are requesting specific rooms or areas, be prepared to find that your favourite building could be closed during the period of refurbishment, so have a back-up building in mind.

Which alternative resort is the closest UK-package equivalent?

Opting to change resort, or book a different resort to All Star Movies is something you may want to consider. Another All Star Resort is your best option for price, transport, room type, and overall experience. The All Star hotels are all on the same gated site, standard and preferred rooms are virtually identical, and importantly the prices are very similar. The only real difference between the All Stars is theming in my experience. If you want the peace of mind that you are staying in a hotel that does not have construction work going on, but want virtually the same experience, All Star Music or All Star Sports is where to head.

Magic In A Minute

All Star Movies rooms are getting a refurbishment and works will be ongoing from May 2026 to the end of January 2027. Expect building closures and signs of building work during daytime hours.
