What’s Happening And When?
Disney has announced that the closure of Muppets Courtyard will be a phased closure. Here’s the timeline:
10th May 2025: Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will serve its final guests
7th June 2025: Muppet Vision 3D and PIzzeRizzo will officially close
After that the construction walls will go up and the transformation into a Monstropolis, the colourful city from Disney Pixar’s Monsters Inc, area will begin.
Farewell to A Classic!
For many Disney fans, including the Riding the Magic team, and especially anyone who has been visiting Hollywood Studios since the early 1990s, Muppet Vision 3D is a beloved piece of Walt Disney World history.
The attraction first opened in 1991 ad was the last Muppet project to be personally overseen by Jim Henson before his passing. Its trademark blend of slapstick humour, chaotic effects, and classic characters like Kermit and Miss Piggy made it a nostalgic must-see. The Muppet Show was playing on BBC One decades before Disney+ was around! Elton John even appeared on The Muppet Show in 1978.
For fans worried about the loss of such an iconic attraction, Disney have said that they are:
"Exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."
To us this suggests that Muppet Vision 3D may reappear in another format at some point in the future. So all may not be lost if you are feeling particularly sad about the attraction and area closing.

Monstropolis Is Coming Next
The new Monsters, Inc. land will complete replace the Muppets area, and while full details are still being finalised behind closed doors at Disney, we do know a few things. Here’s what you can expect:
A themed dining location
The Monstro Theater
A Flying Doors Coaster
Reimagined Courtyard area featuring a central Mike Wazowski statue and Monstropolis-style architecture
Disney has not confirmed a timeline for the works and there is no official suggestion of an opening date. Early rumours suggest 2027, but that is just the rumour mill.

What UK Visitors Need To Know
If you’re booking your Walt Disney World holiday from the UK, here’s a few things you might want to consider.
Firstly, if you are a huge Muppet fan travelling before June 2025, you may want to take some extra snaps and enjoy Muppet Vision a couple of times before it goes. Even if you’re not the biggest fan, work it in to your itinerary for Hollywood Studios as it is going to be a part of Disney Parks history soon.
If you are travelling after the beginning of June 2025 you will see construction walls in this area. This won’t affect your day at all, but there will be two less dining options, so places may see a slight uptick in wait times for food.
If you are big forward planner, 2027 is looking like it could be an interesting year for Disney World, with lots of new attractions coming. Plus you may get to be one of the first to experience the Sliding Doors Coaster which is going to be one epic ride.
Final Goodbye
While saying goodbye to Muppet Vision 3D is going to be tough for many, and there are fans out there who are furious about the closure, the transformation certainly promises something exciting for UK Disney fans to enjoy when visiting Hollywood Studios.
