Typhoon Lagoon Temporarily Closes From 9th September 2026

Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World
Disney World goes back to only 1 open water park from 9th September 2026

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon closes for seasonal refurbishment on Tuesday 9th September 2026, with Monday 8th September the last day to visit. Blizzard Beach will remain open. Typhoon Lagoon has been open since 12th May 2026, a run of 120 days, and while a reopening date has not yet been announced, this closure is in line with seasonal refurbishment schedules.

For UK visitors heading to Disney World on holiday after the summer holidays have ended and schools have gone back, only one Disney water park will be open. This ends the option of visiting either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, and while this is not going to make or break your holiday it is worth noting when planning.

When does Typhoon Lagoon close?

Typhoon Lagoon's last operating day is Monday 8th September 2026. From 9th September, Disney's notice says the park will "temporarily close" and points guests towards Blizzard Beach instead. Disney hasn't put a reopening date on the calendar, which is normal for these seasonal refurbishments.

Typhoon Lagoon reopening

Disney will be returning to operating only one water park during the autumn season.

How long has Typhoon Lagoon been open this summer?

Typhoon Lagoon reopened on 12th May 2026 after its own winter refurbishment; it had closed back on 14th February. By the time it shuts on 8th September, it will have been open for 120 days: 17 weeks and a day.

The last day of Disney’s Cool Kids Summer and the free water park admission guest benefit is 8th September 2026, coinciding with Typhoon Lagoon’s last opening day before temporary closure. These closures officially mark the end of Disney World’s summer season.

How does this compare to last year's water park closure?

In 2025, Disney closed one of it’s two water parks that had both been open all summer on the same calendar date, 8th September, as they are closing this year. Except last year it was Blizzard Beach closing while Typhoon Lagoon stayed open. This year Disney has flipped the rotation: same date, but Typhoon Lagoon is closing and Blizzard Beach is staying open.

What the headline date comparison doesn't show is how long Typhoon Lagoon ran in that previous opening cycle. After Blizzard Beach closed on 8th September 2025, Typhoon Lagoon kept going right through autumn and winter, all the way to 14th February 2026, that’s a continuous opening of 289 days, just over nine and a half months before it closed for refurbishment. Blizzard Beach then took over on 15th February 2026, and Typhoon Lagoon reopened on 12th May 2026 to kick off this summer's dual-park run.

The table below sets out how Disney’s water park rotation has played out over 2025 to 2026 now, so you can see the pattern at a glance.

Date

Water park opening / closing

1st May 2025

Typhoon Lagoon reopened; Blizzard Beach temporarily closed

21st May 2025

Blizzard Beach reopened and both parks open together

8th September 2025

Blizzard Beach closed for seasonal refurbishment

8th September 2025 - 14th February 2026

Typhoon Lagoon remains open alone (a further 160 days)

15th February 2026

Blizzard Beach reopened

12th May 2026

Typhoon Lagoon reopened: both parks open together again for summer

8th September 2026

Final day Typhoon Lagoon is open (closing for refurb)

9th September 2026

Typhoon Lagoon closes; Blizzard Beach remains open

The early-September changeover is now a pattern worth noting. Disney has landed on the same pivot point for a water park closure on two years running. Last year it was Blizzard Beach closing; this year it is Typhoon Lagoon. If the pattern follows, UK visitors can expect Blizzard Beach to be the only water park open for the autumn and winter season, but that is not confirmed.

Why Disney keeps closing one water park at a time

For most of the year Disney keeps just one of the two water parks open, rotating them so each gets an extended spell offline for maintenance and refurbishment during the lower-demand months. The early-September swap is just Disney easing back into its one-park rhythm now that peak summer crowds are tailing off. Summer 2025 was the first time that Disney had operated both water parks since the 2020 closures, so this is perhaps a new operational norm as the free water park benefit is also set to return for summer 2027.

Which water park is open if you're visiting in Autumn 2026?

Blizzard Beach. From 9th September it becomes the only operating water park. For families visiting during October half-term it is most likely that the water park option will be Blizzard Beach, but Disney hasn't confirmed reopening dates yet. For anyone hoping to experience Typhoon Lagoon, this is not going to be an option.

Magic In A Minute

Typhoon Lagoon closes for its seasonal refurbishment on 9th September 2026, with 8th September the last day to visit. If your holiday is after the 8th September plan for any water park rest days to be at Blizzard Beach.
