With that said, there is now a cashless component for anyone wanting to purchase snacks, so this is something that UK visitors are going to need to know about and work into their planning. So if you’re heading to Walt Disney World soon, you might need to think about how you are going to pay for your snacks if you don’t have a dining plan. Cause skipping Mickey-shaped snacks snack just isn’t an option on a Disney World holiday from the UK!
In this article we’re taking a look at what is cashless at Walt Disney World and how to plan ahead from the UK.
What Has Actually Changed In The Parks?
On 8th October 2025 reports started popping up on social media that Disney World snack carts had gone cashless. Over on Orlando Explored on YouTube they shared the change from the snack stands directly in EPCOT as you can see here:
New signage didn’t only pop-up in snack carts in EPCOT, they popped up all over Walt Disney World in snack carts in Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.
The signs read:
“CASHLESS LOCATION
Please pay with Credit Card, Disney Gift Card, or Mobile Payment.
Disney Gift Cards are Available for purchase at your near Walt Disney World Store.”
That means you’ll now need to pay digitally for your favourite snacks including Mickey bars and popcorn. This means you’ll need to pay using your mobile wallet, a card, or a Disney gift card. You should still be able to use your Magic Band if it is linked to your credit card.
Is Disney World Now Cashless?
Apart from the snack cart locations, cash is still accepted across much of Walt Disney World, but it could well be an evolving situation.
Here’s the current breakdown for 2025:
Location Type | Cash Accepted | Details |
|---|---|---|
Snack carts and mobile food stands | ❌ | Some exceptions still remain, but the majority is now cashless |
Quick Service and Table Service restaurants | ✅ | Cash accepted at tills |
Shops and merchandise locations | ✅ | Cash and card accepted at the tills |
Car Parking | ✅ | Can pay cash or card at the pay kiosk |
Resort hotel front desks and concierge | ✅ | Cash and card accepted |
Disney Springs | ✅ | Cash and card accepted, but this can vary by retailor. |
Mobile Food Ordering | ❌ | You pay in app and this isa card purchase |
Cash is not gone and is still an option, even at the cashless locations. You just have to convert it to a Disney Gift Card first, which can have its perks.
How Will This Affect My Holiday From the UK?
This information is not to be taken as financial advice.
For most UK guests, this shift isn’t huge as many people are already comfortable with contactless payments. It’s foreign transaction fees and exchange rates that make a difference to UK travellers.
Looking for a travel friendly credit or debit card is one option when heading to Disney World, one that does not charge transaction fees. There are numerous credit and debit cards offering 0% transaction fees and you may already have a card that offers this.
The next option is to take the cash and plan in an extra stop on day one to put some money on a gift card.

Using a Gift Card To Budget Snacks
The shift to cashless payments for snacks could actually be a blessing in disguise for UK travellers. Instead of giving the kids cash to join the queue for popcorn, you can instead give them the chance to pay for and choose their own snacks during the trip. By giving them a set snack budget amount on a gift card, kids can choose their own snacks and it’s a lesson in managing money too.
For Disney Adults this might also be good. Heading over from the UK on holiday it is easy to get lost in the yes let’s have another snack. When you want to do snacks on a budget, a gift card is helpful. Simply allocate some of your cash to the gift card for snacks and away you go, when the cash is gone, bring your own snacks in or stretch .
Planning your trip with a snack bucket list, so you can preload a gift card on day one works. You also avoid choice fatigue and overwhelm if you pick your snacks before you go.

Does the snack cart change affect the dining plan?
A lot of UK visitors opt for the dining plan when they stay on site, especially if they get the free dining offer. Visitors have prepaid credits to pay for meals and snacks, which is essentially cashless. You can still use these at the snack carts as a means of paying exactly as you did before.
The Benefits of Going Cashless
Cashless transactions are mostly about efficiency, rather than excluding those visitors who would prefer to pay by cash. Digital payments are faster speeding up queue lines, which is ideal for food kiosks. Security is another factor that may have influenced this decision, as well as the operational considerations of reconciling tills at the end of the day.
Cashless operations are also aligned with broader trends in the US hospitality industry, especially in high-traffic tourist destinations.
