Will BA and Virgin passengers experience Starlink on UK direct flights to and from MCO in 2026?

Virgin's A350 will be equipped with Starlink first

British Airways and Virgin Atlantic appear to be in competition to get Starlink installed on their fleets; a move that is going to change the flying experience for passengers all around the world. The change for UK visitors heading to Disney World is going to be huge, and it looks like the MCO route may be amongst some of the earlier routes to get Starlink and therefore free Wi-Fi on flights.

We’re taking a look at how the competition between the two airlines is increasing the likelihood that UK passengers on flights to and from MCO may well be experiencing the free inflight Wi-Fi before the end of 2026. So if this matters to you, read on.

The Starlink Wi-Fi race: BA vs Virgin

On 19 March 2026, British Airways became the first UK airline to launch fast, free Starlink Wi-Fi on a live customer flight to Houston. The plane was a 787-7 and all customers in all cabins had Wi-Fi access for free, for the whole flight, signalling a huge change in the way UK passengers will experience transatlantic air travel.

Just under a month later on 12th April 2026, Virgin Atlantic who were the first to announce the rollout of Starlink being installed on the entire fleet, said they would be accelerating the rollout of the Wi-Fi technology beginning in May 2026.

Both airlines are rolling this technology out in stages across their fleets, which means that some planes will be fitted earlier than others. For UK passengers heading to Orlando International Airport for Disney World and Universal holidays, this means some routes will have the technology before others, so where you fly from in the UK will make a difference to your Florida flight experience.

Why the plane you fly on is going to make the difference

While both airlines have promised fleet-wide Starlink, the physical installation takes time. The free Wi-Fi systems will be certified once installed, so whether you experience it on 2026 flights to Orlando from the UK is going to depend on the type of plane you’re flying on.

Here is a list of the aircraft most frequently used by Virgin Atlantic and British Airways on the direct MCO routes from the UK:

Route

Airline

Aircraft

Starlink Availability Odds

Manchester ↔ MCO

Virgin

The route is mainly A350-1000, with A330-300 used on added summer capacity; Virgin said Winter 2026 changed to A350-1000.

Highest (First phase from May 2026)

Heathrow ↔ MCO

Virgin

The Heathrow route is currently a mix: VS135 is showing as an A350-1000, VS49 as an A330-900neo, and VS91 as an A330-300.

A350-1000: highest (First phase from May 2026)

A330-900neo and A330-300: low (Likely wait until late 2026/2027)

Gatwick ↔ MCO

British Airways

BA recently described the route as using Boeing 777 aircraft.

Medium (Rollout in progress over 24 months)

Virgin Atlantic: Flights with Starlink start rolling out in May

Virgin brought forward its rollout; the first Starlink-equipped Airbus A350 will now take flight in May 2026.

  • Strategy: Virgin is prioritizing its flagship A350-1000s first.

  • Wi-Fi Cost: It’s free for all Flying Club members (it's free to join, so sign up before you head to the airport).

  • The Timeline: All A350s are expected to be finished by early summer 2026, with 787s following in late 2026 and A330s in 2027.

British Airways: early overall lead, but Gatwick gap for MCO

BA won the race to launch the UK's first Starlink flight in March 2026 on a Boeing 787-8 to Houston, but it is less likely to have the first Orlando flight.

  • Strategy: BA is fitting its 787-8 fleet first.

  • The Orlando Problem: Most BA flights to Orlando depart from London Gatwick (LGW) using Boeing 777 aircraft. Since the 777s are further down the priority list, BA passengers flying to Orlando may actually wait longer than those on other BA routes to Starlink equipped flights.

The best way to get Starlink-equipped flights as soon as possible

There is no way to guarantee that the flight you book will be equipped with Starlink if you’re booking 11 months out like many UK visitors to Disney World do. Even a few days before, it is possible that planes can be changed. But while you cannot get a guarantee you can increase your chances if it is important to you.

Looking at the table and the rollout schedules it would appear that the Manchester route to MCO operated by Virgin Atlantic is most likely to have Starlink Wi-Fi available.

Which direct Orlando flights look best for early free Wi-Fi?

The Manchester route to MCO operated by Virgin Atlantic is most likely to have Starlink Wi-Fi available, followed by Virgin Heathrow flights and then British Airways flights from Gatwick.

Virgin’s Manchester route most likely

Virgin Atlantic's Manchester service is heavily operated by the Airbus A350-1000. Since the A350 is the first in the Virgin fleet getting Starlink, this is the most likely route to have Starlink connectivity first. Virgin say this part of the fleet should be completed by early summer 2026, so Manchester passengers have the highest chance of a Starlink enabled plane.

Furthermore, Virgin is changing nearly all winter 2026 Manchester-Orlando services to the A350. As the rollout begins in May, this is is the most likely direct route to offer Starlink in 2026.

Virgin’s Heathrow route likely

Heathrow is not a single-aircraft route to Orlando, which means there is more variability. Here are some of the most frequently used planes and the likelihood of them getting Starlink:

  • Flight VS135: Primarily an A350 (High Starlink potential from May).

  • Flight VS49: Often an A330neo (Likely to receive the upgrade in 2027).

  • Flight VS91: Often an A330-300 (Rollout milestone not yet separately published).

BA’s Gatwick route least likely

The BA Gatwick-Orlando direct route is less likely to be in 2026. That is not because BA is behind overall, it is actually ahead on launch; it’s because BA's first live Starlink aircraft is a 787-8. The Orlando route is currently running using Boeing 777 aircraft. So for Disney World trippers from the UK, the BA Orlando route looks more like a later route than an immediate one happening in 2026.

It is always worth remembering however that there is no way to guarantee that the flight you book will be equipped with Starlink if you’re booking 11 months out like many UK visitors to Disney World do. Even a few days before, it is possible that planes can be changed. But while you cannot get a guarantee you can increase your chances if it is important to you.

Magic in a minute

Virgin's new free Wi-Fi lookslike it will be available on direct Orlando routes sooner than direct routes to MCO offered by British Airways. Look for an A350-operated Orlando flight with Virgin if you want to experience Starlink on your Orlando flight from the UK as soon as possible, quite possibly in 2026.
