Remy's Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT is at the end of its 3D era, about to serve up a brand-new 2D ride experience for guests.
From Monday 11 November, the popular attraction in EPCOT's France Pavilion will close for a short refurbishment before reopening on Friday 15 November with a major visual update. The ride will drop its 3D effects in favour of sharper, high-definition 2D projections.
A New Recipe for a Fan-Favourite Ride
Since opening in 2021, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure has been one of EPCOT's standout family attractions. A whimsical, trackless dark ride that shrinks guests to the size of a rat and sends them scurrying through the kitchens of Gusteau's restaurant.
Now, however Disney has decided to remove the 3D element that has defined the ride in both Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World. Giving the ride a technical tune-up, some new props, and changing the experience in both parks, the Walt Disney World ride is getting the rapid update.
The refurbishment will bring:
Upgraded 2D projection systems replacing 3D visuals
Improved lighting throughout the queue and show scenes
New props and scenic touches to modernise the experience
The storyline remains the same. You'll still dodge rolling trolleys and splash through the kitchen, but Disney says the change will make visuals clearer and the experience more comfortable for all guests.
Why the Switch to 2D?
Disney hasn't officially linked the update to any wider trend, but the move away from 3D rides has become more common in recent years. Removing 3D glasses simplifies operations, reduces maintenance, and makes the experience more accessible for children and guests with sensory sensitivities.
It's also a move towards ride consistency across parks, suggesting Disney wants both versions to match visually and technologically.
For UK Travellers Heading to EPCOT
If you're visiting Walt Disney World this week, Sunday 10 November was your final chance to experience the ride in 3D before it temporarily closes.
After it reopens on 15 November, expect a sleeker visual style, brighter lighting, and no more 3D glasses to worry about keeping on during the kitchen chase.
For UK visitors planning 2026 holidays, there's no reason to worry as the ride's storyline, theming, and family-friendly charm should remain untouched.
Magic in a Minute
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure will close briefly this week before returning with a new 2D look and sharper visuals. It's not a replacement; it's a refresh, designed to keep EPCOT's French favourite fresh for the next generation of Disney guests.
